Obituary for Donna Jean Rubin
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce a celebration of Life to be held for Donna Jean Rubin, 63, on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at The Vacaville Opera House. Donna passed away Monday, Jan. 4, at home in her sleep
She was born in San Diego, traveled the world with her Air Force family and moved to Tacoma, Wash., where she had two daughters, started her bakery career, and met the love of her life. She was a manager for Winchell's doughnuts, which brought her to California and eventually Vacaville, where she resided for the past 30 years. Her career at Winchell's eventually led to her opening Solano Baking Company with her family in 1981. When not working at the bakery, she could be found helping her mother at the gift store, Jan's Gifts & Collectibles in Alamo Plaza. Donna loved helping others, and never met a stranger. Her radiant smile and simple elegance is remembered by all who knew her. We miss you so much, but know you are at peace. She is survived by her loving husband, Arnie Rubin; children, Kendra Benz (Gerna) Brenna DeMartini and Darrin Rubin; grandchildren, Kasey and Derik Rubin, Noelle and Dalton DeMartini, Kara and Keely Benz ... and of course Daisy and Sugar. In lieu of flowers, please make a toast to our Donna, our Mamma, our Grandma, our Mom, with your favorite glass of champagne.
