Obituary for Dennis Harold Ward
Dennis Harold Ward passed away on March 18, 2012, at the age of 74. He was married to Kathleen Ward for 52 years before her passing in 2011. He was the loving father of two adoring daughters and a loving son and three grandsons. Dennis was born February 20, 1938 in Richmond, California. He was a resident of Dixon since 1976 having moved from Richmond. He was a caring father and grandfather who thought the world of his three grandsons Jonathan, James and Steven. He served as an electrician in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Bentwaters in Woodbridge, England where he met Kathleen. He worked for Pacific Gas and Electric for over 25 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the McKinley Masonic Lodge #347 in Richmond. Throughout his years, he was very active throughout the Dixon Community which he cared deeply about. He was a member of the Dixon American Legion Post 208. He was involved in various Dixon school activities’ including Dixon Little League. He was a member of the Dixon Moose Lodge. He loved his dog, classic cars, Looney Tune cartoons, dancing and being a handy man around the house, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. In 1986, he suffered a stroke which restricted his mobility. His special gift was to inspire others to overcome whatever obstacle they face no matter how difficult the odds. Dennis defines courage, will and determination. Dennis will be greatly missed by his many family members and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, and parents, he leaves behind, daughter Louise and husband Stanley Walker of Dixon, son David and wife Nancy Ward of Dixon and daughter, Debbie Robinson of Dixon, and three grandsons, Jonathan and Steven Walker of Dixon and James Robinson of Dixon as well as many other family members and close friends. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home, 569 N. First St., Dixon. Funeral services will be held at the Dixon Community Church, 955 E A St., Dixon on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. with burial services at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon at 1:00 p.m. Reception to immediately follow. The family would like to thank all of those that have offered a kind word and helping hand with his care throughout the years.
