Obituary for David John Mercurio
David John Mercurio, 47, passed away on September 6, 2021. Born in San Francisco, CA on May 14, 1974, he was the son of the late Anthony & Ann Mercurio and the youngest of eight. He was raised in Pacifica, CA.
Dave worked for several great companies throughout his lifetime before accepting "the best job of his career" (next to being a dad). He worked in accounts payable for Rubrik; a cloud based data management company in Palo Alto for the past two years.
He dedicated 25+ years to Pacifica Youth Sports and their families. He resurrected the Pacifica Pop Warner Football and Cheer programs serving as President of the Pacifica Tiger Sharks for close to two decades. In 2014, Dave was named the Pop Warner Pacific Northwest Region Volunteer of the Year; a region that covers Alaska, Northern California, Northern Nevada, Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
In 2015, he was proudly inducted into the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame.
Sadly, in mid-July of 2021, David was diagnosed with Stage 4, Pancreatic Cancer ultimately taking his life on September 6, at the tender age of 47. He is and will continue to be sorely missed.
Through it all, Dave kept his sense of humor and remained an inspiration; a loving role-model for most. He is a true example of what it means to be an exemplary leader and a fantastic coach.
David is survived by his wife of 14 years, Nicole Marie Mercurio and their two sons Anthony (13) & Dante (9) who recently moved to Vacaville.
He is also survived by his seven brothers and sisters, Agnes Mercurio (Dennis), Janice Rieger (Paul), Kathy Shepard, Linda Crotti, Jack Mercurio (Cindy), Jim Mercurio (Teri), Christine Mercurio and a number of nieces and nephews (Paul, Adam, Krystina, Ava, Danika, Izabella) and countless cousins & friends including his beloved Mother-in-law, Kim Kapogiannis & family.
He was a terrific father, a dedicated husband, and a loving brother and best friend to so many. He has made his mark and his legacy will live on. His smile and laughter, too.
A viewing (6PM-7PM), Rosary (7PM-7:30 PM) and open-mic tribute (7:30 PM-9PM) is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15 at the McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville, CA.
Funeral services and a Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 12:30PM at St Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave. Vacaville, CA 95688. A traditional Mercurio reception will immediately follow the grave site burial.
For the countless number of people who have inquired about making contributions in support of Dave & Nicki's kids, Anthony (13) and Dante (9), a Chase Bank Savings Account was recently opened for his two boys.
