Obituary for Dan Skiles
Dan Skiles, 80, longtime resident of Pinole until 2008, when he moved to Vacaville . Passed away after a brief illness, June 13, in Vacaville . Born April 16, 1932 in Valrico , Florida . Dan was a retired US Navy Corpsman and businessman. As a Navy Corpsman, assigned to US Marine George Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Division during the Korean War, he was a true ware hero losing an arm and leg during battle. Dan never allowed his disability to slow him down. He loved to travel with his wife, Audrey and their dogs KC and Kelly. He was an avid fisherman and camper. Dan volunteered for 20 years for the City of Pinole as an Evidence Technician. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Pinole Chapter and a proud member of the G-3-1 Korea Association. Predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Audrey Skiles, of Vacaville; son, Dan Skiles; parents, Ben Hayden Skiles and Alma Lylita Wallace; brothers and sisters in law, Ben and Eloise Skiles, Gene Wallace, Roy, Paul and Barbara Hail; sisters and brother in laws, Ruby (Frank) Regello, Mary (Bill) Lafferty, and Mary (Danny) Lorenzo; one grandchild, Danny. Survivors include his daughters and sons in law, Pam (Doug) Van Ornum of Ely, NV., Angie (Greg) Rose of Vacaville; sons and daughters in law, Ben (Patti) Skiles of Vacaville; brothers and sisters in law, NA and Linda Wallace of Florida and Carol Hail of Pinole; 14 grandchildren, Chrissy, Melisa (BO), Benny (Ashley), Elaine (Tom), Katie (Elliott), Bryan, Megan, Shauna, Amanda, and Danny(predeceased); 7 great grandchildren, Mark, Tommy, Jadyn, Christopher, Gregory, Zackary, and Brooke. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2 p.m., at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville CA 95688. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher House in Palo Alto , United Service Organization, (USO), or Troops Direct.
