Obituary for Chester E. Johnson
Chester E. Johnson passed away in the comfort of his daughters home surrounded by family on June 1, 2010.Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1941, he became a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne, fighting throughout Europe during World War II. He was combat dropped into the invasions on Sicily, Normandy, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Reenlisting into the Army in 1947, he also fought in the Korean War. During his military career he received the Silver Star, three bronze stars with two clusters and two purple hearts and was wounded three times. He and wife, Wanda, owned several construction and gunite businesses in the Bay Area for more than 35 years before moving to Vacaville in the early 1980s to retire and be near their family and grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Wanda L. Johnson, and son, Gavin Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Gina Reyes and husband Alan of Vacaville; son, Garrick Johnson and wife Ruby of Antioch. He will be greatly missed by his three grandchildren and families; granddaughter, Cherie Greenlee and husband Marty of Fairfield; grandson Loren Ruport; great-granddaughter Aiyanna Greenlee; and many nieces and nephews.
