Obituary for Charles E. Thompson
Longtime Vacaville resident, Charles Edward Thompson, passed away on Monday, May 8th at the age of 87, in Vacaville. Charles passed away peacefully at home with his family beside him. He was born in Wheelersburg, Ohio to Edgar and Anna Thompson. While serving in England in 1950, Charles met Sheila during a trip to Bournemouth and they instantly fell in love. Later, in 1954, they were married on “Bride and Groom”, a nationally televised show from New York City. They Honeymooned in the Adirondacks. Their first son Robert was born in Ohio in 1955, and in 1957, while stationed in Germany, their second son Richard was born. Charles was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and during his Air Force career, he and his family were also stationed in California, New Mexico and Bermuda. Charles retired at Travis Air Force Base and the Thompson family lived in Vacaville. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Sheila P. Thompson; sons Robert M. (Marilyn) Thompson and Richard D. Thompson, and granddaughter Shea H. Thompson. Burial will be at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on May 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm, with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on June 28, 2017 at the Elmira Baptist Church in Elmira. www.elmirafamily.com.
