Obituary for Charles 'Bud' Hallam
Sept. 8, 1922 - Oct. 12, 2013Charles Frances (Bud) Hallam passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 12. He was 91 when he reached the end of a long and happy life. Bud was born in Vesper, Oregon on Sept. 8, 1922 to Doris and Charles Hallam. Bud first moved to Vacaville with his family in 1938, and graduated from Dixon High School in 1942. He enjoyed being on the football team and hanging out with his best friend Bill Fairfield.In August of 1942 Bud enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country for four years. He received two purple hearts for being wounded in combat during WWII, and was forever proud to have been a Marine Raider. He met and married his wife of 58 years, Joella Jackson on June 19,1955.He worked for over 40 years for Atlas Foundry and ended up being an owner. Bud worked part time for East Bay Brass Company until he retired at the age of 75 in 1997.Charles is survived by his wife, Joella Hallam; daughter, Chris Hansen; son-in-law, Mark Hansen, and three grandchildren, Katie Hansen, Taylor Hansen, and Haley Hansen. Charles is also survived by his nephew, John Katona and family.Bud enjoyed his bonsai trees, hunting, fishing, golf and spending time with friends and family. His caregiver, Dan 'Big John', was a big part of his life during the last year helping him continue to enjoy doing the things he loved with his wife Joella, family and friends.A viewing is scheduled at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville, for Sunday, Oct. 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. The military committal ceremony will be held at the Sacramento VA National Cemetery in Dixon, at 10 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 21. A memorial service will follow at Valley Church, 5063 Maple Rd., Vacaville by Pastor Raleigh Galgan with a reception to follow. Any donations made in his memorial can be made to the Disabled American Veteran's Chapter 84 at 549 Merchant St., Vacaville, or to North Bay Hospice. -
