Obituary for Catherine P. (Katie) Smith
Catherine (Katie) Probasco Smith was born August 2, 1918, in rural western Iowa. She was the daughter of a farmer and later a farm wife. She taught at a one-room country schoolhouse until she married Edmond (Eddie) Smith in 1940. They traded farming in 1958 for the adventures and cultural experiences of Phoenix, Arizona. In 1964, they chose a less metropolitan lifestyle in Dixon, California. They lived there for the remainder of their lives. Catherine loved her family, nature, cooking, traveling, and her own quiet relationship with the Lord. She retired from the Dixon post office and then wrote and published several cookbooks. She and Eddie traveled throughout the US as well as to Europe. Eddie died in 1997. In 2003 she married Meredith Amass. She continued to travel by taking cruises with Meredith. She died August 27, 2015. She is survived by her husband Meredith, her sister Lillian (Murlyn) Ronk, her sister-in-law Rosalie Probasco, her five children: Marilyn Won (Ron) Hoppes , Marvin (Christie) Smith, Russell (Christine) Smith, Roberta (Greig) Van Every, Juanita Joy (Dale Blosser), six grandchildren: Eric (Wendy) Won, Julie Won (Damien) Brower and two children, Preston (Ashleigh) Smith, Bryan Smith, Brad (Susie) Smith and two children, Chad Smith, and many, many friends.
Until we Meet How blessed is the tie that binds Our hearts in lasting love, The comradeship of kindred minds Is like to that above. To when at last we have to part In sorrow and in pain, We know we still are joined in heart Until we meet again.
