Catherine "Cathy" Pierovich Wood passed away, December 5, 2022 in her home in Vacaville at the age of 80 years old. Born in a small village in Croatia on February 9, 1942 to the late Andrew and Lucy Pierovich, she was the eldest of 5 sisters.
Having survived the harsh realities of World War II, and not knowing the English language, Cathy came to the US in 1956 at the age of 14 with her sister Pauline to live with relatives near Ione, CA. There she met her future husband, Daved, who was the foreign language teacher of Ione High School. He spoke to her in Russian and French to teach her the English language. Cathy graduated from Ione High in 1960, continued on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from California State University Sacramento, and married Daved in 1966.
The couple built a home in Ione, where they lived for 34 years before moving to Vacaville. During that time she gave birth to and raised their two children, Jeffrey and Audrienne, taught at Ione High School, was an active leader in the Girl Scouts organization, traveled around the world, and helped out at her aunts' boarding house restaurant. Cathy loved family, traveling, and having fun - especially with her four sisters.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Daved Wood. She is survived by her two children: son Jeffrey (Cynthia) Wood and daughter Audrienne Wood; granddaughter Brianna Quintanilla; sisters Pauline Popjevalo, Lucy Sivatjian, Ann Obad, and Ellen (Ron) Herrle; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, December 19th, 2022 from 4 to 7 P.M. at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville, CA, with rosary at 6 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held at 10 A.M., Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Vacaville).
