Obituary for Carol Lee Mendes
Carol Lee (Groft) Mendes passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the evening of April 13, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 80 years old. She was born in Vacaville, California on December 24, 1931 to Andrew Joshua Groft and Ella Smith Groft. She had one brother, Kay Andrew Groft. Carol was set up on a blind date where she met and later married her sweetheart and husband of 61 years, Alfred J. Mendes after he returned from his service in the Army Air Corps. Her life was blessed by the birth of their three children; Linda Bea Mendes, Gail Marie Constant and Alfred J. Mendes, Jr. Carol dedicated her time and talents raising and caring for her family. She was unselfish to a fault – everyone else came first. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and nature’s beauty. She loved the company of her family and friends. She was a kind and generous person, a dedicated mother and an exemplary grandmother and great-grandmother. She left a lasting, loving impression on the many people she touched in her life. She will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her husband, Alfred J. Mendes; children, Gail Marie (David J.) Constant of Kentucky, and Alfred J. Mendes, Jr. of Vacaville; her 2 grandsons, D.J. (Shauna) Constant and Curtis (Tracy) Constant; and 4 great-grandchildren, Kaitline, Jordan, Molly Jo, and Sadie. Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Bea; her parents Andrew and Ella; and her brother, Kay Andrew Groft. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel. Reception immediately following interment.
