Obituary for Carol Laverne (Thatcher) Martin
Carol Laverne (Thatcher) Martin (11/30/34 - 7/25/10) Carol Martin, 75, passed away Sunday in her home in Vacaville, CA. Carol was born in Van Wert County, OH to Evon and Milan Thatcher and raised in Benton City, WA. She was homecoming queen of her senior class. Carol met Len Earl Martin on a blind date and they married in 1957. In 1972 the two founded a welding shop in Vacaville, later incorporated to Martin's Metal Fabrication and Welding, Inc. A hardworking and independent woman, Carol was also an ardent gambler, and was fond of saying, "you gotta bet big to win big." She is predeceased by her husband Len Martin, son John Martin, and sister Patricia Dodson. She is survived by her daughters Charlotte Martin of Vacaville, and Kelly and Samuel Rohlfs of Mountain View, CA; son David and Martha Martin of Vacaville; grandchildren Chantelle and Sonja Martin of Vacaville, Steven Rohlfs of Fairfield, CA, and Maxwell Rohlfs of Mountain View; brothers Donald Thatcher and Richard Thatcher of Benton City, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday 5-8pm with funeral service on Friday 10am, both at McCune Garden Chapel. Interment at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery will follow service.
