Obituary for Carol J. Matter
Carol Jean (Peterson) Matter
Carol Jean Matter, 81, of Dixon, California passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Courtyard Healthcare Center in Davis, California. She suffered from Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson’s.
Carol was born October 13, 1935 in Sheridan to Herman and Lucille (Goodchild) Peterson. They later moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin. Carol went to school at St. Joseph Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1953.
After she graduated from high school, Carol worked in Eau Claire, Wisconsin for several years at Beneficial Finance Company and then transferred to Minneapolis, Minnesota. She moved to Pacifica, California in 1963 and worked at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco and later, Berkeley, California.
Carol was united in marriage to Harold Matter in June 1966. They lived most of their lives in El Sobrante and Dixon, California.
Carol had many friends and relatives back in Minnesota, Wisconsin and in California. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, trips to the casinos and just talking and getting together with her friends and relatives. She continued to keep in touch with friends and relatives throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband, Harold, one daughter, Julie Sladen; son-in-law, Michael Sladen grandchildren Kiera and Trevor Sladen, her brother John (Lyn) Peterson, brothers-in-law James Matter, Donald Matter and Richard(Kate) Matter. Carol is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many close friends. Each and every person she knew had a very special place in her memory and in her heart. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Joseph Matter, sisters-in-law Setsuko Peterson, Mary and Faith Matter, Clara Kiser, brother-in-law Edward Kiser, and nephews Jeffrey Matter, Tom and Charles Peterson.
A special thank you to Courtyard Healthcare Center for Carol’s medical and her personal care support personnel. They treated her professionally and they enjoyed her comments and interactions with them.
Also, Sutter Health Hospice care provided additional medical and clergy support to make Carol’s passing more pain free and calming for her and her family members.
