Obituary for Carl Albert Bruegmann
Carl “Red” Bruegmann was born in San Francisco on January 24, 1927 where he lived until 1937 when his family relocated to Vacaville. He passed away in Vacaville on March 1st after a long illness. Carl served in the Army and reached the rank of Tech Sergeant before being honorably discharged. He served in the Korean War where he earned a bronze star, Korean service medal with bronze service star and the United Nations Service Medal with one overseas bar. After the Army, Carl worked as a service manager at Stith/Shellworth Chevrolet for 35 years. He retired in 1987. He was active in the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Good Sam Club where he was a member of the Cowtown campers since 1973 and was Assistant Northern California State Director for 33 years. Carl loved camping. He also enjoyed fishing and RVing. RVing took him many places that he thoroughly enjoyed especially Alaska and Branson, MO. For 16 years he and his wife traveled to Yuma, AZ to spend their winter months at their lot in the Country Roads RV Park. There they made many friends. His favorite activity was shuffleboard, which he was known to play daily. Carl is survived by his wife of 22 years, Maxine Headley-Bruegmann; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra L. O’Brien (Paul); step-daughters, Linda Diane Hilger and Susan Lea Van Sickle; brother and sister-in-law, Robert Bruegmann (Mary Anne) as well as 4 grandchildren, Shawn O’Brien, Jerry Hilger, Kimberly Gilland and Nicole Elich and 3 great-grandchildren, Arianna Hilger, Skyla Yates and Emilyn Elich. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Bruegmann and his parents, Albert and Ella Bruegmann. A viewing will take place on Tuesday, March 8th from 5pm to 8pm with a funeral on Wednesday, March 9th at 11am, both at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville. Burial with military honors will follow at Vacaville Elmira Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guide Dogs For The Blind in memory of Carl.
