Obituary for Beverly June Hilton
She began a new journey March 22, 2010, having lived a very full 85 years with great passion. Her joys included sharing happy moments with friends and family, many days with her Bridge Club, caring for animals, and great pleasure in gardening. Born Beverly June Peck on December 15, 1924, in Oakland CA, she and her sister Frances spent their early years in San Anselmo, CA. The family then moved to Dixon, CA in 1938 for her fathers postal job. Upon graduation from Dixon High in 1942, she asserted her independence and adventurous spirit and found work in Berkeley, CA. With family ties in the Hawaiian Islands, she moved to Oahu in 1948 with a variety of jobs and gaining new life-long friends. In 1958 she returned to CA and began a 25-year career with Aerojet Corp., where she also met her beloved husband, Dick Hilton, marrying in 1969. They built a home in Fair Oaks, where after his passing in 1983, she continued to nurture and continually transform her extensive landscape, and converted the swimming pool to a Koi Pond. Adventure still called in her sixties when she made her first of four trips to Africa, once sitting arms length from a great gorilla. She also traveled to India via a two-day Indian train journey and flight in a small aircraft to see Bengal tigers in the jungle. She toured China and embarked on many cruises and other travels with family. An avid Bridge player, she earned a level of a Gold Master many years ago. One who epitomized independence and grace, she will be missed by her family and her many dear friends.
She is survived by her nephew Greg Taylor, of Sacramento, and his wife Samantha and their children, Luis and Cara; Step-daughter Barbara Kiehn, of Sacramento, and family; Cousins Carol Damato, of Concord, and Maureen Wyman, of Lincoln, OR, and their families; and the family of her cousin Iwalani Miehlsteins in Oahu, Hawaii. At her request, burial services will be private, and friends and family welcomed to her home for a gathering this Sunday afternoon. Donations can be made in honor of Beverly June Hilton to a Kaiser Hospice or a non-profit organization of the donors choice.
