Obituary for Betty H. Rasmussen
Betty Hilda Rasmussen née Charnaud passed on to our Lord at the age of 91 on September 2, 2021. Betty was born August 11, 1930 in the city of Limassol, on the island of Cyprus, to British citizens Harold and Phyllis Charnaud, descendants of French Huguenots, living in Bornova, Turkey. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Kelsey, her parents, eldest sister Edith (passed age 99), and brother John (passed age 83). She is survived by sister, Olive (current age 102), and held close in her heart cousin Molly Wood, as well as many nephews and nieces living abroad. After moving to the US, Betty enjoyed hearing news of family and friends and keeping in touch by visiting when possible and calling often.

Betty’s childhood was blessed with happy times, costume parties, summers spent by the seaside swimming in the Aegean Sea, but there were turbulent times coming due to WWII. After the war ended, Betty held a civilian position as a stenographer/typist with NATO’s Allied Land Forces Southeastern Europe, Headquarters of the General Staff, in Izmir from 1952-1956. Betty spoke several languages and was commended and praised for her services as an interpreter. During her time with NATO, Betty met American serviceman A1C Darrel Crossman, they married and came to the US in 1958, settling in Vacaville where Betty was employed by Vaca Valley Bank as a teller, and on January 9, 1962, she was very proud to become an American citizen. After more then twenty years of marriage, they divorced.

Betty met Kelsey Rasmussen and they married in 1979. Betty retired from her position with the bank and began another chapter in her life with Kelsey until his death in 2014, enjoying traveling, gardening, golfing, and large family gatherings. Betty embraced being a mother and friend to Kelsey’s children Marilee (Jim), David (Vicki), Neal ( Vicky), and Glenn (JoAnn), grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of 16. She was amazing for her faith, generosity, love, and the kindness that she showered on friends and family. Betty will be remembered as a true lady with a loving heart, missed by all that knew and loved her.

Services will be held Saturday, September 18, 11:00 a.m. at McCune Garden Chapel.

A Celebration of Life following the services will be held at the Mission on the Hill, 1300 E Monte Vista Avenue, Vacaville, CA 95688.
