Obituary for Bernadine A. Smith
Bernadine Antoinette Smith entered into eternal rest on January 7, 2013, at home, with her family, after a two-year battle with cancer. Bernadine always remained positive during this time and was a symbol of strength and grace in the face of adversity. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late Isaac and Virginia Garcia and lived in Dixon for the past 25 years. Bernadine leaves behind her loving husband and best friend, Chris; their sons Anthony and Andrew; her mother, Virginia Garcia; sisters Esther (Larry) Gilliland, and Diana (Eric Scott) Garcia; her brother Chris Garcia; and a large extended family. Bernadine graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 1985 and worked as an internal auditor for many years. For the past 12 years, she worked at UC Davis, most recently as a Principal Contract and Grants Analyst. Bernadine enjoyed her work, but was happiest when spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed watching Anthony and Andrew play baseball, from Little League through high school. Bernadine inherited her faith and a strong work ethic from her parents and always set high standards for herself. She was a caring person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
