Obituary for Audrey Belle Cooper Isaacson
Audrey Belle (Cooper) Isaacson was born November 27, 1927 in Lebanon, South Dakota. After a full life that took her around the world and gave her an adoring family, she passed away at the age of 93 on June 12, 2021.
Audrey grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, claiming Sturgis as her hometown long before motorcyclists discovered it. After graduating high school, she spent time at South Dakota State University and working as a telephone operator in San Francisco. She married Irving “Ike” Isaacson on May 11, 1949 and that’s when the adventure really began. Together they raised four children and lived in South Dakota, Las Vegas, Japan, Texas and finally Vacaville, California which would become their home.
Audrey loved to travel to see her family and friends who were scattered across the country, spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids and, probably her true passion, playing cards. Her friends and family knew her as a no nonsense woman with a unique sense of humor who loved the Oakland Raiders, NASCAR and giraffes, and who didn’t think a Sunday was complete without a bottle of Champagne.
Audrey is survived by her sisters Barbara LaPointe (Ken) and Monica Layne, sister-in-law Vi Cooper, children Katherine (Dan), Jayne (Bob), Chris (Julia) and James, as well as nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on July 7 at McCune Garden Chapel. A mass dedicated to both Audrey and Ike will be held on September 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s in Vacaville.
