Obituary for Arthur L. Dickinson
Arthur Lee Dickinson, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. He was born in 1934 in Chicago and lived there until age 10 when the family moved to New Orleans. He left to attend the Air Force Cadet Training Program at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas where he met his future wife, Laura, and received his commission and wings in 1957. Throughout their 60 year marriage, they lived all over the county and abroad with their two children, Jon and Lisa, before settling in this area in 1977.

While proudly serving his country for over 30 years, Art flew several different transport air craft. He was part of the initial cadre to fly and develop the training programs for the C-135 and C-141 Military Air Transport Service. Aside from his family & friends, flying was his greatest love. During his service time, Art also received his B.S. from Chapman and his M.S. from Pepperdine, which allowed him to teach several courses under Human Resources Management as an adjunct Professor after he retired from the Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1983.

He loved spending time with his family traveling, camping, cooking and eating Cajun food. Art was a proud member of the Daedalians, the Quiet Birdmen, the Masonic Lodge and several other civic organizations. He was especially honored to be a Lifetime member of the 57th Alumni Association, named for the 57th MAS at the Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laura, his son, Jon, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, of Vacaville, his daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Kevin Hendricks, of Romeo, Michigan. He was extremely proud of his grandsons, Jason and Scott and his granddaughter, Diana, of Michigan. He will also be missed by his only sister, Joyce, and brother-in-law, Allen Suter, of Mandeville, Louisiana, his sister-in-law, Sammie Edwards, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and several nieces and nephews.

Art’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Vaca Valley Hospital and most especially to the staff at VCRC for their compassion. We will never forget your support, kindness and reassuring hugs during the time he was in your care.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 4th, from 5-8pm, also at McCune Garden Chapel. The memorial service will take place on Friday, October 5th at 10:30am at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville. A graveside service and honor guard will follow at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 12:30pm, as will a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s in his honor.
