Obituary for Arline Marie (Pedrick) Jones
Arline Marie (Pedrick) Jones passed away peacefully on the morning of May 28th after feeding her beloved horses at sunrise. Arline was a lifelong farm girl so it was no surprise that she held to her belief in taking care of the animals first before being rushed off to UC Davis Med Center where she passed on to become one of the Lord’s newest angels.
Arline was born in Tres Pinos, California on January 21, 1936 to Henry and Barbara Pedrick. The Pedricks were a pioneer farming family in the Dixon area. There is a road named after Arline’s great-grandfather east of town. Henry moved his family from Paicines to Dixon when Arline was a young girl as he was given a chance to farm his elderly uncles’ farm (the Hackman Ranch).
Arline attended the Maine Prairie and Tremont Schools before attending and graduating from Dixon High School. As a bona fide country girl, Arline always loved her animals, especially her dogs and her horses. In her advanced years she often forgot people’s names, but she never forgot the names of her beloved pets.
When she was in eighth grade her older brother, Wilbur, brought a football teammate named Elmer home to help with bucking hay on the farm. They kept up a correspondence when Elmer joined the Army and was shipped off to Korea. True to his word, when he came home he proposed to her and they married and settled in Dixon to start a family and pursue their desire to be ranchers.
Arline could often be found irrigating pastures or feeding livestock while Elmer worked for the Solano County Road Department and farming during his “off” hours. During this hectic ranch lifestyle she and Elmer also had three children: a daughter, Cindy, followed by two sons, Jim and Mike. Arline also made time to be an active member of the Dixon Grange, Solano County Young Farmers and Ranchers, and a 4-H leader. Many will remember the Farm Days hosted by Elmer and Arline at their farm, where kindergarteners had hands-on experience in making butter from cows they got to milk and seeing all of the farm animals.
In her later years, Arline enjoyed the many grandchildren she was blessed with. She especially liked going to their sporting events and watching them show at fairs. Arline will always be remembered as a consummate story teller, often telling her grandchildren stories about growing up as “a young Indian boy” on the frontier.
Arline is survived by her children: Cindy and Mike Middleton (Dixon, CA) and their sons, Zeb and Austen; Jim and Diane Jones (Orland, CA) and their children, Andrea, Daniel, and Audra; and Mike and Anna Jones (Walla Walla, WA) and their children, Sadie, Logan, and Carson. Arline is also survived by many nieces and nephews in addition to many other beloved family members and friends. Arline was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Barbara Pedrick, and her husband and soulmate, Elmer Jones.
Donations can be made to the charity of choice by the donor. Services will be held at 10:00 AM at the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 with a graveside ceremony following at the Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.
