Obituary for Arhtur Walter Lipke
Arthur Walter Lipke was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Aug. 30, 1935. He passed away on Sept. 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. Art was the son of Cliff and Evelyn Lipke, the fifth of 13 children. He joined the Air Force at age 17, which brought him to Travis Air Force Base. He met Beverly Hoover while coaching Beverly’s brother in Little League. He and Bev married in 1958. Their daughter Toni was born in 1959. In 1961, the Lipkes were transferred to Washington DC, where they had daughter Eva in 1962. After 12 years in the Air Force, civilian life called. A career as a computer programmer for Honeywell brought the family back to California. Art went from Honeywell to JALCO, where he worked as a data processing manager until his semi-retirement. He pursued his ice cream passion by opening a Baskins Robbins franchise until he was ready to fully retire. Art’s other passions included fishing, bowling and collecting baseball cards. Art was a diehard Oakland A’s fan. The family was never allowed to leave a game early because “it’s never over till it’s over.” Art is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Bev; as well as daughters, Toni McCallum (Dave) and Eva Lipke; grandchildren, Ryan Moses (Harben), Dustin Peasley and Rachel Moses; brother-in-law, Vernon Hoover (Valaree); siblings, Jimmy, Evelyn, Lenny, Pat, Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews. Art had been excitedly looking forward to the birth of his first great- grandchild due in January. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cliff, Rich, Ronnie, Joe and David; and sisters, Dot and Marie. Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1600 Union Ave., Fairfield. The family encourages attendees to wear green or Oakland A’s apparel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fairfield or (Vacaville) Kaiser Hospice.
