Obituary for Antonio 'Tony' DeMelo
On Dec. 28, Antonio 'Tony' Bernardo DeMelo passed away peacefully at the age of 89 with his family at his side. Antonio was born in Lisbon, Portugal on Nov. 18, 1924. He was the second youngest of seven children and the last survivor. Antonio is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Maria Prazeres (Baptista) DeMelo; six children, Isabel (John) Darby, Albert (Tammy) DeMelo, Sergio DeMelo, Maria (Gary) Conrad, Maria (Tom) Coogan, Alsina Lozano; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In 1963, the family migrated to America, where he was employed as a dairyman for the Misuraca Dairy for 20 years. He also worked at UC Davis as a custodian, where he retired in 1989. Antonio enjoyed gardening, watching soccer, and mostly, his family. He was a very hardworking man and very generous. He would much rather first go without and provide for his family, which enriched his life and made him happy. Friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter¹s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at the Silveyville Cemetery, where an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather will be laid to rest.
