Obituary for Anthony 'Tony' G. Vasquez
Of Folsom, CA passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014, he was 77 years old. Tony was born on March 24, 1937 in Colton, California. He grew up in Rio Vista, California. Tony excelled in school and was accepted into Humboldt State College where he joined the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was very athletic, ran track, pole vaulted and jumped hurdles. He was the Editor of the College newspaper and the class president. He graduated with honors and received his degree in Journalism. Tony was the former Chief of Recruitment for the California State Personnel Board. He also served as Chief of Selection for the City of Sacramento Personnel Department. Prior to that, Tony worked as director of Anti-Poverty Programs at the County, State and Federal level. In July 1983 after Tony retired from the state he created three monthly diversity job journals Hispanic Hotline, Black Careers Now and Asian Pacific Careers. They feature professional level positions in the public sector including City, County, State, Federal, College and University, Special District, and Unified School District career opportunities. He had many hobbies including golf, attending estate sales and traveling. He loved spending time with family and friends and had a great sense of humor. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Sylvia Vasquez, his parents Tony and Martha Arteaga, his brother Ronnie Arteaga and his sister Lupe Arteaga. He leaves behind his loving companion Martha Atwood and her family, his two children Tami Paulsen and Mark Vasquez , his three grandchildren Danielle Paulsen , Derrick Paulsen , and Douglas Paulsen his sisters Helen Torres, Lenore Alarcon and Phyllis Nixon and his brothers George Vasquez and Daniel Arteaga. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Service: Services will be held June 20, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at St Peters Catholic Church 105 South Second St, Dixon, CA. Viewing and a rosary will be held June 19, 2014, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home 569 North First St, Dixon, CA.
