Obituary for Anthony Geronimo Jr.
Anthony “Tony” Geronimo, Jr., 87, of Dixon passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on June 14. Born on Sept. 19, 1930, to Spanish immigrants Mary and Anthony Geronimo, Sr., he grew up in Rodeo, Calif., until the age of 12 when his parents purchased their family ranch in Dixon. Tony graduated from Dixon High School in 1949 where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1950-1953 on the Blunt’s Reef Lightship. Tony loved to work with his hands so made the decision to pursue a career in carpentry. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 180 from 1950-2018. He also managed the family ranch after the death of his father in 1962. Tony married the love of his life, Isabel Fernandez, in Winters on May 6, 1956. They raised two daughters, Cindy and Cheri. In 1984 Tony retired from carpentry and continued to manage the family ranch. In his leisure time he enjoyed deep sea fishing, volunteering for the Dixon American Legion, growing vegetables in his garden, cracking walnuts to give away, and spending time with family and friends. He was a long-time member of American Legion Post 208, Dixon Moose Club, Carpenters Union Local 180, USCG Lightship Sailors Association, and Valley Almond Growers Co-op—Winters. Tony is survived by daughters Cindy Contreras (Cliff) and Cheri Humphrey (Jim); grandchildren, Chase Contreras (Taylor), Riley Humphrey, and Victoria Humphrey; sister, Marilyn Ford; and many nieces and nephews. Tony is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel Geronimo; brother, Joe Geronimo and his parents. A memorial mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Dixon followed by a military burial at Silveyville Cemetery and a reception at the Dixon Olde Vets Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children—Northern California, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817. The family would like to thank the staff of Sutter Davis Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
