Obituary for Anne Kathleen Pursglove

Anne Kathleen Pursglove passed away suddenly in her Vacaville home on February 23. A lifelong resident of Vacaville, Anne enjoyed a full and rewarding life committed to the town she loved, her church, her brothers, her many friends and the numerous dogs that were always at the center of her life.

Anne attended Vacaville public schools before earning a Bachelor of Arts in English at Sacramento State University in 1983. For nearly 22 years, she was an analytics specialist at The Hartford before moving on to rewarding work at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Fairfield in recent years.

In addition to her numerous professional accomplishments, the thing that mattered most to Anne was her community: her friends, her church, her charity work and her many beloved dogs. Whatever activity Anne committed herself to, she was sure to make new friends that would stay with her regardless of where life took them. Her friends knew there would always be a phone call, an email, or a text message waiting for them just to keep in touch.

She threw herself wholeheartedly into the many charities she was involved in, especially the Stan Foster Memorial Golf Tournament. Anne served as chair and as part of the tournament committee for nearly 30 years. She considered everyone involved, volunteers and recipients alike, as family. A vegetarian for many years, she was a passionate advocate for animal rights. For her church community she served as catechist and was an active volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Anne’s enthusiasm for life was boundless. She was an avid reader, keen on current affairs, a movie buff and loved an evening out at her favorite local restaurants across the Bay Area and Sacramento. She enjoyed frequent trips to San Francisco for opera and theatre and was a longtime follower of the Oakland Athletics and Raiders. Later, she found a love of professional hockey and became a big fan of both the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins and Celtics. She loved to quilt and tend her garden and would often share recipes.

Anne is survived by brothers Bob and Kevin, godchildren JJ, Carmen, Audrey, Brad, Emily, and Molly, and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Anne and Leo and brothers Bill and Donald.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 13th, 5:30-8pm with rosary 7pm at McCune Garden Chapel and Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 14th at 10am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Vacaville Elmira Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Anne’s favorite charities: Hanna Boys Center, ASPCA, the Stan Foster Memorial Golf Tournament, the Boys and Girls Club of Vacaville, PETA, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
