Anna May (Ann) Smith passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 89.
A third-generation San Franciscan, she began her career as a bookkeeper at Purity Stores in Burlingame after graduating from Marin Catholic High School. There, she met her loving husband of 52 years, Max, with whom she enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, spending time with their grandchildren, and contributing to the community life of Dixon. At Purity, she also formed lifelong friendships, including Rita Martin, Joan Holzhausen, Josephine Amoroso, Caroline Foster, and Kathy Cunningham, with whom she spent many enjoyable weeks on vacations with their families at the Russian River.
Inheriting her gift for socializing from her Irish family, she never missed an opportunity to engage in pleasant conversations with old friends or someone new. Ann loved playing cards and, later in life, Bunco.
A member of St. Peter’s Church since moving to Dixon in 1974, she participated in the Young Ladies Institute and was an active contributor to the prayer and scripture discussion group organized by Deacon Dan Blanton. A devoted Catholic who cared deeply for others.
Ann is survived by her children, Jeanne (Greg) and Tom (Maria); grandchildren, Olivia and Claudia; and nephews, Br. Mark Murphy and Bill Murphy (Jane).
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, May 22nd, at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Dixon, with a reception to follow. A Rosary will be held Wednesday evening, May 21st, at 6:00 pm at the Milton Carpenter funeral home, 569 N. 1st Street in Dixon. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ann’s favorite charity, Dixon Family Services.
