Angelina (Colla) King peacefully departed from this life with family by her side and was reunited with her husband, son, and many other loved ones on Friday, May 17th. Angie was born on December 24th, 1921, in Suisun, CA to Erminio and Luigia Colla.
As a youth, she enjoyed engaging in sports alongside her five athletic brothers. In the early summer of 1938, Angie met Charles Lester King Sr. at the Suisun skating rink. As Lester fought overseas for the Air Force during WWII, they shared a long engagement. Angie was always quick to recall running up a $45 phone bill in the name of love. When together, the couple enjoyed dancing the night away in front of big bands like Glen Miller. Their dream of tying the knot was realized on June 24, 1944.
Two children soon followed for the couple, Victoria Ruth King and Charles Lester King Jr. While raising children, Angie worked as a secretary for Solano County Title Company. Later, she was employed with the California Mental Facility as Executive Secretary to the Superintendent, leaving her able to tell a number of entertaining stories. Simultaneously, she served on numerous civic and scholarship boards. She and Lester were avid volunteers and supporters of the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Together the family enjoyed driving their 1954 Jaguar, winning multiple car show awards, and making road trips to ghost towns. Additionally playing croquet, golf and musical instruments were favorite pastimes.
Later in life, Angie relished lunches out with friends, hosting and playing bridge, decorating for holidays, and educating others on local and family history. Overall, though, sharing time with family and celebrating their accomplishments is what she valued most.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Ruth King; grandson, Justin (Mary) King; granddaughter; Lisa (Colt) Childers; and three great granddaughters, Audrey King, Avery King, Sierra Childers; and many other valued family members, as well as those close friends she considered family.
Angie's family will be hosting a memorial service for her on Saturday, June 8th, at 11 a.m., at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville.
