Obituary for Andrew W. Steppe
Andrew Wilson Steppe was born to Ulysses Grant Stepp and Esther Wilson Steppe on April 26, 1931 in Versailles, Kentucky. Andrew with his brothers Thomas Craft Steppe (deceased) and Cecil Hayes Steppe moved to San Diego, California after their parents were divorced in Versailles, Kentucky in 1934. In San Diego, they resided with their mother’s brother Thomas Henry Wilson and sister Rebecca Craft and her husband at 2871 ½ Imperial Ave. Andrew attended school in San Diego from Elementary to Middle to San Diego High School, graduating in 1949. He was very active in sport, both at school and the Boys Club of San Diego. An avid lover of jazz, he played the drums and enjoyed a wide cast of friends and associated musically. Andrew was employed at North Island Naval facility in San Diego working in the repair section of Naval Air Operations and before retirement from North Island also began employment with Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA), which then became US Airlines, painting aircraft and then becoming a sky cap. When he and Joyce moved from San Diego to San Francisco, Andrew worked part time at the San Francisco Airport. They moved northeast of San Francisco to Vacaville, California to be near Joyce’s aging mother. He enjoyed working and playing golf in the Vacaville area. Andrew was the kind of man who everyone loved and enjoyed his strong work ethic and commitment to his family and friends. He would do anything to help those in need as long as they were willing to work hard to change whatever negative situation they were faced with. Andrew leaves a host of family and friends to mourn his passing: his wife, Joyce; children, Debra Steppe, James Steppe (deceased), Donna Steppe; step-children, Mishell Simien (deceased), Jack Robinson, Melinda Hagen, Steven Robinson, Edward Robinson, Michael Robinson; grand-children, LaShandra Fluno and husband John Fluno, Brittany Keys, Jeanine Simien-Mann, John Simien, Martina Mieh, Christiana Mieh, Geelah Mieh, Alexandria Washington, Shakid Ali, Kareem Ali, Amir Ali; great-grandchildren, Katura Fluno, John Fluno Jr., Simien Smouse-Cintron, Celena Smouse-Cintron, and Andrew Robert Brown; and great-great-grandchild, Andreya M. Brown; the two remaining living brothers, Marcellus Steppe and wife Eleanor in Detroit, Michigan, Cecil Hayes Steppe and wife Evelyn in San Diego; and deceased brothers and sisters William Stepp, Edward Stepp, Thomas Steppe, Elizabeth Presley, Ethel Black, Margaret and Tiepan. On September 3, 2014, Andrew was called by our Heavenly Father to his well deserved rest in his family residence in Vacaville where he had been on hospice care for his failing health. His caregiver, Jack Robinson, and his brother Michael were with him as he left to join his mother and other family relatives and friends at his acceptance into paradise with all smiling and enjoying each other’s company.
