Obituary for Alfonso De Jesus
Alfonso Wilhelm De Jesus Jr., 89, of Dixon passed away January 9 in Fairfield. He was born September 26, 1931 in Chicago, IL, but grew up in the Philippines during WWII.
He served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. His duty in the Air Force was aircraft maintenance, which included training young airmen in aircraft maintenance on several different aircraft. He was also a leader in the field of Education. His assignments took him to many bases in the United States, Asia, South America, and Europe. He served in the US Navy, US Army and US Air Force, retiring from the Air Force after 30 years as Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank.
After retirement, he worked for McDonnell Douglas, providing Aircraft Maintenance training the enlisted and officers in support of the Peace Sun F-15 program in Saudi Arabia. He was assigned to Riyadh and Dhahran. This service period totaled 15 years.
Upon returning to the California, he and wife Maria began volunteering at David Grant Hospital at Travis AFB, culminating 19 years of support.
He was active with the Knights of Columbus, the Sacramento National Cemetery Committee and volunteer Honor Guard, NCOA, VFW, and American Legion. He provided tax prep help to Veterans and other projects in the desire to support Veterans in Solano County and Travis AFB.
Alfonso was dedicated in service to his country and after, as a volunteer in several capacities. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was lovingly known as “Poppop” to his grand and great grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife Maria; daughters Anna (John) Schulte, Cataline (Mike) Harkleroad, Beatrice Miller, and son Christopher (Laura); grandsons, Bray, Kristofer, Joshua and Simon; granddaughters, Sarah, Lydia, and Cara; great granddaughter Brenna and great grandson Gavin; brother Rick and sisters Evelyn, Victoria, Auring. He was preceded in death by parents, Alfonso De Jesus Sr. and Annie Talheimer; sisters, Mary and Fe.
Mass will be held Tuesday, January 26, 11:30am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Interment in Sacramento Valley National Cemetery will be private.
