Obituary for Albert M. Cardoza
Albert passed away peacefully with dignity in the arms of his wife Reba, after a long illness in Vacaville, Calif. Albert was born in Manteca, Calif. He was the only child of Manual and Leopolina Cardoza. His parents came to this country from the Azores. Albert served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in major assaults in the European Theater, where he earned Good Conduct, American Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign and World War II Victory Medals. Albert was also employeed in a civilian position at Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base, now Travis Air Force Base, where he received pilot training. He later earned a civilian pilot's license. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in Dec. 1945. Albert has been a resident of Solano County since 1946. Following his military discharge, he became employed by Sheldon Oil Company and later the Tidewater Associated Oil Company. Albert began his law enforcement career with the Solano County Sheriff's Office in Aug. of 1949 under the direction of Sheriff John Thornton and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In 1970, Albert was elected to the office of Sheriff upon the retirement of former Sheriff Tom Joyce. Albert had continued to be elected to subsequent terms and served six-four year terms. He was also the President of the California State Sheriff's Association for two terms. Albert completed his career with 45 years of dedicated service to Solano County as a peace officer. His dedicated service to the people of Solano County continued well past his retirement and he continued to respond to calls for help and assistance when needed. Albert is survived by his wife, Reba; son, Dana; step-son, Tharen (Francine); grandchildren, Checotah (Robert), Angelah, Chelseah (Josh), Briannah (Cosmo), Jennah (Drew); great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Luke, Isabella, Caiden and Sofiah; numerous friends and extended family. Family requests that in lieu of flowers (due to acute allergies) please make a donation to your favorite charity. Viewing will be held from 5 to 87 p.m. with rosary vigil to begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2015 at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St. Vacaville, Calif. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 11, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave. Vacaville, Calif. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery, 522 Elmira Road Vacaville, Calif. Arrangements under the care of McCune Garden Chapel, 707-448-6546.
