Obituary for Aaron Erwin Jones Jr.
Aaron E. Jones passed away on Friday December 18, 2009 at Concord John Muir Hospital after a long illness. Aaron was born in Helper, Utah on September 6th, 1941. He was six months old when his family moved to Oakland and then to Richmond. He joined the US Army in 1962 and was stationed in Alaska and Ethiopia, assigned to intelligence. He survived the 1964 earthquake that killed more than 130 people and measured 8.4 on the Richter scale. He was honorably discharged in 1968, which also included time in the reserves. He earned his Masters degree at Golden Gate University and in 1969 he began a 35+ year career in health care administration, retiring in 2004 due to health reasons. He also served as a chaplain in the US Air Force Civil Air Patrol for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was with the Civil Air Patrol for about 20 years and earned the job of State chaplain overseeing about 25 others. He was also a volunteer prison chaplain at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville. In 1967 he married his wife of 42 years, Betty Jones, who survives him. Survivors also include his son Jeremy Jones, wife Samantha, and their son Jeremiah (Aarons first grandson); son Andrew Jones, brother Randy Jones and his wife Leslie; brother Lyle Jones and his wife Linda; sister-in-law Sharon Jones; his Uncle Kenneth Jones and his wife Norma of San Luis Obispo; his Uncle John Jones and his wife Judy of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Maxine Jones, and his brother Mike Jones. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday December 29th, with visitation at 9:30 a.m., both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 360 Portsmouth Dr, Vacaville, CA. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m., Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
