Generally, how much will a pre-need plan cost?

There are three distinct charges to the account.  First there are the fees for the Funeral Director and the use of their facilities.  Secondly there are those fees that are paid on the client’s behalf, and thirdly there is the cost of the casket.

Is embalming required by law?

Normally you have the right to elect not to embalm. Embalming may be required in certain instances such as shipping out of state by common carrier or if you select a service that includes public viewing. If, however, you elect not to have embalming done, California Health and Safety codes require that the remains be kept under refrigeration.
